Our Grower
We procure our leaves from select farmers whose families have been growing tea for generations. They must not only be unparalleled in traditional farming technique but also crop from ideal locations - paramount in reference to the altitude and angle at which the sun and moon are positioned throughout the changing seasons. These are the prerequisites for the finest quality tea.
The YAME(yah-meh) region is nestled among the mountains of southern FUKOAKA(foo-kwo-kah)prefecture on KYUSHU(key/yew-shoo), the large southern island of Japan. An enchantingly lush winding valley follows a mountain stream up to the village of HOSHINO(ho-she-no), which means “field of stars”. Perched high on the ridge overlooking the village is a tea museum, ... and a telescope observatory. Keeping with the Japanese magic of blending high technology and traditional ways, the observatory floor is beautiful polished hardwood suitable for stocking feet. No utilitarian grey concrete here! Underneath the stars of HOSHINO, tea shines brilliantly. From these mountainous fields come consistent winners in the venerable GYOKURO(gee/yoh-koo-row, gee like in McGee) category of Japan’s national tea contest, with the entire winning crop devoted to Japan’s Imperial...
Evidence is still inconclusive in this area, but it's thought that the catechins found in tea, specifically green tea, create thermogenesis-the production of heat within the body which is related to burning calories. These compounds may inhibit certain chemicals in the brain, therby prolonging thermogenesis. In one study, participants who drank four cups of tea daily had remarkably higher fat oxidation (by 12 percent) and burned an average of 67 additionalcalories a day. Drinking at least three cups a day is recommended to raise the body's metabolic rate.
Numerous research has demonstrated that Green Tea is beneficial in preventing cancer including prostate, pancreatic, breast, colorectal, esophageal, bladder, lung, and stomach. The catechins found in tea prevent cell mutation, deactivate certain carcinogens, and reduce the formation and growth of tumors. Drinking as many as four cups a day may be necessary to reap the anti-cancer benefits.
Heartburn is characterized as a burning sensation in your chest or throat, and while this is a common ailment, if you experience heartburn more than two times per week, you may have a condition known as GERD, or gastroesophageal reflux disease. Heartburn is caused by stomach acid backing up into your esophagus, and the esophageal muscles in those with GERD do not close tightly, allowing acid to reflux. Heartburn may be controlled or triggered through foods and beverages, and while green tea is the second most common drink, research shows it may aggravate heartburn in some people while relieving heartburn in others. Active Constituents Scientists believe polyphenol compounds known as catechins provide green tea with its medicinal health benefits. Green...
